Every day a new miracle diet, supplement, or exercise comes out in the news promising to deliver a sexy slim body. Take this pill and burn fat fast! And if you’ve ever been on a diet, I bet it’s hard for you to ignore this amazing diet news, hoping that THIS will be the diet that finally works.
In fact, most people think that if you lost weight, the diet was successful. But it’s not the lost weight that should be the measure of success: It’s MAINTAINING the weight loss!
Dieters don’t fail: DIETS Fail. Yet the Diet Industry makes over $60 billion dollars a year on promises and strategies that fail 95% of the time. HOW is that possible?? What other product that fails to deliver on its promises continues to make more money each year? NONE!
The reason that the Diet Industry continues to make obscene profits is because so many people are desperate to lose weight. They feel desperate to lose weight and frightened about continuing their life looking as an overweight person. And they blame themselves for regaining the weight.
I fell for so many diets, believing that something was wrong with me:
- my body was at fault and something MUST have been wrong with my metabolism
- I need to eat less, or I cheated and ate a cookie so it was my lack of discipline
- I skipped an exercise session, or didn’t sweat enough
The public has fallen for the “common knowledge” that all you have to do is eat less and exercise more, and chooses to blame overweight people for being lazy and undisciplined. And in fact, even people who are overweight believe this nonsense and blame themselves. Just try to show real facts to a thin person, and they’ll essentially tell you that you are making excuses for being lazy and a liar to boot! But the truth is far from that conclusion.
Becoming overweight is most often the result of stress. Stress can cause metabolic changes that will add weight with no difference in eating behaviors. It can also cause over-eating (binging) or under-eating* – both, which can cause physiological stress and resulting weight gain.
Another factor in stress is self-condemnation, body hatred and low self-esteem. Add public humiliation and mean-spirited “humor” that is still acceptable when the recipient is overweight, and you have a recipe for disaster.
Dieting is not the answer. So you want to know how to maintain weight loss?
STOP DIETING. Start doing daily stress relief – be it a walk in the sun, restorative yoga, slow meditative breathing, praying, focusing on gratitude, or my favorite: Mindful Eating. It’s like having your cake, and eating it! (read this book for a great plan of action)
Stop blaming yourself, and start focusing on something outside of your YOUniverse. Live a life on purpose and find a reason to give from your heart to someone else who needs your help. Suddenly your focus is off your weight and what your body looks like. You’ll notice your mood elevating, and you become happy about something that IS BIG in your body: Your Heart! And perhaps slowly, and unintentionally, your weight(and stress) is no longer and issue, and you unintentionally lose weight – your weight manages itself.
I have seen this happen many times. You can do it! Learn more about how the Diet Industry has tricked you into locking yourself in Diet Prison. Get my new Amazon Best Selling Book!
PS: Most of my clients actually under-eat chronically, and have to start eating more to speed up their metabolism! What about YOU? Comment below
